Antler sourcing and certification, plainly stated: Antler Chandeliers & Lighting Company has been in business since 1994, building handcrafted lighting fixtures from real, naturally shed antler. This page states our sourcing and certification facts plainly, in one place.

Our Antler Sourcing and Certification Standards

The antlers we purchase for our chandeliers are naturally shed—not removed from animals for our lighting. We buy through antler brokers and hand-select the material for each fixture. Customer-supplied antlers may have a different origin; see building with your own antlers.

Deer, elk and moose shed and regrow antlers as part of an annual cycle. Our brokers typically source elk and mule deer from the western United States, whitetail from the eastern and central United States, moose from Canada and Alaska, and fallow deer antler from managed herds. These are typical sourcing regions, not fixed origins for every piece.

We work with select antler brokers who buy directly from shed hunters, and we choose craft-grade antler for our designs, hand-selected for size, color and symmetry before any fixture goes into production.

Antler is also a renewable material in a way that resin and other synthetics are not: it regrows on the animal every year.

Not every antler we collect becomes part of a finished fixture. Pieces that show cracks, insect damage, or heavy weathering are set aside, and only antler that meets our craft-grade standard for size, color, and symmetry moves into production. That hand-selection step is part of why no two Antler Chandeliers & Lighting Company fixtures are ever exactly alike.

Shed-collection rules vary by state and land manager. Requirements may include seasonal closures, access restrictions, educational certificates, or licenses. Collectors should check the current rules for the specific place they intend to visit.

Certification

Our chandeliers, wall sconces and pendants are UL Certified for the United States and Canada under file E238337, including custom builds. Our lamps are not covered under this file. For the full explanation of what that listing covers, and why “made with UL listed components” is a different claim, see our guide to UL listing vs. UL components.

Our table and floor lamps are built in the same shop, but they are not UL Listed or otherwise third-party certified, and they are not covered by file E238337. We state that plainly rather than let the file number on our hardwired fixtures imply a certification the lamps do not carry. If a lamp is going into a permitted or commercial installation, confirm the requirements with your electrician or inspector before you order.

This certification covers the assembled, finished fixture, not just the components inside it. That distinction matters: a fixture can contain UL-listed sockets and UL-listed wire without the finished fixture itself ever being certified. Our facility is subject to UL’s ongoing Follow-Up Services inspections to confirm every certified fixture matches its approved design, and our listing is publicly verifiable through UL’s Product iQ database under file E238337.

UL Certification comes from Underwriters Laboratories, an independent, nationally recognized testing organization that has evaluated electrical products for safety since 1894. A UL Listed mark means a product has been tested against UL’s published safety standards for shock and fire hazard, and that the manufacturing facility — not just a sample submitted once for testing — is subject to ongoing, unannounced inspections to confirm every unit leaving the shop still matches the certified design.

Checking a listing this way is part of what we mean by transparent antler sourcing and certification: buyers shouldn’t have to take a seller’s word for either claim. Many listings mention individual UL-recognized components, like a socket or a length of wire, without the assembled fixture itself ever having been tested and listed.

Who We Are

Antler Chandeliers & Lighting Company is currently owned by Dante Martin and based in Georgia. The business has been in continuous operation since 1994.

Our antler sourcing and certification standards exist for the same reason: so anyone considering a real antler chandelier can verify, rather than simply take our word for, where the material comes from and what safety testing the finished fixture has passed.
