How Antlers Are Ethically Sourced For Antler Craft?
Our antler lighting is made from naturally shed antlers. Animals shed their antlers in late winter or early spring and regrow new antlers late spring. Shed hunters collect the sheds and sell them to antler brokers. Antler brokers separate the antler by quality. We buy craft quality antler from a few brokers nationwide.
What UL Certification Means for Your Fixture
Antler Chandeliers & Lighting Co is a UL-certified manufacturer. Our fixtures are certified under UL File E238337 for both the United States and Canada. Certification at the manufacturer level means our finished fixtures — not just the components inside them — are evaluated against UL safety standards, and our facility is subject to UL’s periodic Follow-Up Services inspections. Many antler lighting builders assemble using UL-listed sockets and wire; that is not the same as holding certification for the completed fixture.
UL certification requires that a finished fixture be tested as a complete unit — wire gauge, socket type, grounding, and mechanical structure are all evaluated. Testing confirms that normal operation and minor electrical faults do not produce dangerous temperature rise or fire risk. Most US electrical and building codes require hardwired fixtures to carry a certification mark from an accredited body, which means an uncertified chandelier can fail inspection or complicate a homeowner’s insurance in the event of a fire.
Certification is also ongoing rather than one-time. Certified manufacturers submit to periodic unannounced facility inspections confirming that every fixture built matches the approved design — not just the prototype that was originally tested.
